INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

One-on-one session

This specific service is implemented when students need extra support with coping, emotion regulation, decision-making, academic issues, conflict resolution, or have other problems going on in their life or throughout the day that they need to talk about. While many individual counseling sessions are spontaneous, we also set up scheduled times to meet with students who need to talk on a weekly basis. Whatever the challenge may be, we strive to provide students with a safe, comfortable, and positive environment to address the underlying problems.

GROUP COUNSELING

Small group sessions

This service is designed to target a specific issue that students are having. Some examples of small groups that we have may be a social skills group, a grief group, a divorce group, a self-esteem group, etc,. We believe small groups encourage relationship building among students and can help students learn new skills by listening to the perspectives of other students. By collaborating on different topics, students are better able to understand and process whatever is it that they are working on while also receiving support and guidance from the school counselors.

CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS

In the classrooms

This service is implemented when teachers allow time for us to come speak to the students on a topic such as social media safety, the safety and awareness of drug and alcohol usage, how to be more mindful, career pathways and interests, bullying awareness, and many other social-emotional subjects. Many times these topics for classroom lessons come from the surveys that we distribute at the beginning of each semester. These surveys are given to and completed by teachers, students, and parents so that we can best evaluate and meet the needs in our school building.

ACADEMIC

S-team and 504 coordinators

This specific service is designed to analyze, confront, and solve students' academic struggles. Whether they are failing classes and need some tutoring or have an impairment that requires accommodations in the classroom, we are here to advocate for them and support them. We set up meetings with teachers, parents, students, and administration to address the students' needs and collaboratively create a plan so that we can help the student succeed and establish relationships with their teachers and peers. It is our goal at HMS to have all students do well and enjoy coming to school.
